My Story

I view the work that I do as a unique gift, to be able to join individuals in what is sometimes the most difficult parts of their journey in life, to walk alongside them, sharing the skills I have learnt with them to support them in connecting with their potential and resilience.

I qualified as a Chartered Counselling Psychologist in 2009 and, since this time, have gained experience in the voluntary sector, NHS services (both primary and secondary care) and private hospital settings. I have worked therapeutically with individuals and groups, with clients of all ages, and with various challenges. My training has been in a variety of therapeutic models, and I have undertaken specialist training in trauma therapies (PICT, EMDR, AI-EMDR, & Somatic trauma therapy) and third-wave CBT approaches (MBCT, DBT & ACT). I qualified as a Senior PICT Practitioner in 2013 and obtained my doctorate in Psychology in 2015. In addition, I provide ASC & ADHD assessments for Adults to help them understand and embrace their uniquely individual minds.

Throughout my time as a Counselling Psychologist, I have maintained a commitment to my professional development. I approach my work from the stance that every client is unique and, therefore, needs a tailored approach to their development and change. An empathic stance is important to me—I want my clients to feel understood and safe while working purposefully towards their goals.

I am also committed to the development of other professionals alongside my clients, so I have offered training to Consultant Psychiatrists, GPs, nursing staff and the general public on mental health disorders (Depression, Anxiety disorders, Emotionally Unstable Personality disorders, Complex trauma and PTSD), crisis management and specific therapeutic models (DBT, ACT & EMDR). I have also developed my skills in client assessment, having gained qualifications in psychometric assessment and extensive training in diagnosing and treating neurodevelopmental disorders, supervised by Professor Susan Young, a leading expert in the field, and attending regular CPD and peer group reflective and professional development sessions.

During my time working at The Priory Hospital, I have set up and developed two psychotherapeutic services, including a group programme in Schema therapy for attachment wounds and a fully adherent Dialectical Behavioural Therapy programme, which I undertook the role as the DBT Team Lead for five years. In addition, I have designed and delivered therapy groups on developing Self-esteem, generalised anxiety disorder, CBT for Depression, Stress management, Mindfulness, Trauma Stabilisation, Understanding Relationships, developing self-awareness, Emotion regulation, distress tolerance for adolescents and Healthy Lifestyles.

Outside of work, I enjoy creativity, being in nature, and photography. I also enjoy spending time with friends, family, and my animals.
